This is Carlyle modern high fashion interpretation of the aesthetic codes of the 1920s. Cropped and spit-curled hairstyles a la Josephine Baker, but done in multi-tonal pink and blue. Hair design by @shirleyfujisaki who made them teeny tiny spit curls do what they do! The make up is inspired by classic 1920s make up like icon Anna May Wong, but a smokey eye in jewel tones instead of charcoal black, and an emphasized Cupids bow lip but done as a heart shape in the center of the lips . Carlyle wanted to do a mini collection, so his designed a unique multi-layered outfit for each doll. His made two dolls, the Black Barbie and the white Barbie. The Black Barbie with the pink hair has a sheer A-line mini dress with silver metal chain fringe sewn in a scalloped formation for an art deco vibe. The shoulders are accented with oversized bows with tails drippppping to tha floor. She has thigh-high stocking boots, throw back to how in the 1920s hemlines went up, exposing stockings for the first time. A black bodysuit, gloves and chandelier earrings complete her lewk. The convention name was A Decade of Destiny so his worked with copywriter @elle.oliver.edmonds to come up with a name for the Barbie that connects directly to the convention (and also to Destinys Child in his head & heart lol). Elle cleverly incorporated 1920s era phrases like cats meow and bees knees into the doll description on the back of the box! This OOAK is worth over $AUD600,000 and has become a prized treasure. What makes it so special is its cubist-style 'Fancy Vivid' neckpiece with a one-carat Australian pink diamond surrounded by 3.00 carats of white diamonds. Additionally, to match this precious choker, she wears a white diamond ring on her right hand. It was presented in Sydney coinciding with the launch of the Barbie Basics in Australia (the diamond was hand-picked in that country) on the occasion of the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week. The designer, Stefano Canturi, stated at a press conference that he wanted the design of the jewel to pay homage to Barbie's modern and timeless style, which is why he had decided to apply a cubist concept to the design of the jewel. It was auctioned by Christie's Gallery on October 20 during a special sale called "Magnificent Jewels" for 302,000 euros. The funds were allocated entirely to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Antje Boetius is a distinguished polar and deep-sea researcher, currently serving as the Director of the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research. Additionally, she holds the position of Professor of Geomicrobiology at the University of Bremen. Born in 1967 in Frankfurt am Main, she pursued her studies in biological oceanography at Hamburg and San Diego between 1986 and 1992. In 1996, she obtained her Ph.D. in deep-sea microbiology. Boetius embarked on a journey to several marine research institutes, where she conducted research and expanded her expertise. From 2003 to 2008, she established and led a research group focused on studying microbial habitats in the ocean at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology. Since 2008, she has been at the helm of the Helmholtz-Max Planck Joint Research Group for Deep-Sea Ecology and Technology. In recognition of her significant contributions to scientific research, Antje Boetius was honored with the esteemed Gottfried-Wilhelm-Leibniz Prize in 2009, awarded by the German Research Foundation. She was also elected as a member of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. Notably, she served as a member of the German Science Council from 2010 to 2016, during which she chaired its Scientific Commission. Boetius is an elected member and fellow of numerous renowned national and international academies and organizations. Boetius has participated in 50 expeditions aboard international research vessels. Her current research focuses on investigating the impact of climate change on the biogeochemistry and biodiversity of the Arctic Ocean and other deep-sea regions. Barbie doll planned a dinner party! She and Midge doll agreed to do everything themselves, so they needed lots of accessories for the kitchen and dining room to make it happen! Midge doll dressed in a darker version of Barbie Learns To Cook #1634. In this set, the Barbie print fabric was navy/green/red on white. The accessories were: a red plastic belt, red open-toe shoes and a matching pot holder. For serving, Barbie doll wore a red version of Invitation To Tea #1632. The red taffeta lined chiffon jumpsuit had a matching red and gold lam tabard with red silk lining and a metallic gold belt. Clear open-toe shoes with gold glitter completed her elegant outfit. And the hostess accessories were numerous!
