OOAK doll presented at the Paris Fashion Doll festival She is a Repro Barbie doll in Silkstone material just like the Barbie Mattel 75th Anniversary that they released at the end of 2019 year. The Ooak is dressed a gown made from a vintage un-produced pattern found in the Mattel archives. The pattern was found with others hard patterns of the era like Career Girl, Masquerade, Invitation to Tea and many more. It is unknown why this dress was not used in the line but it makes a lovely gown to celebrate Mattels 75th Anniversary. You might notice the fabric is a fantastic reproduction of the Evening Gala brocade.

All gold everything baby; a draped chain mail gown with soft pleats at the hips, a bubble collar & bubble hem coat out of gold micro sequins overlaid with metallic mesh, and multi-chain earrings drippppppping down. I had this flat piece of golden chain mail that I found while cleaning out my office and i felt like I should use it, so I played around with draping & pinning it on a doll body form. I wanted to treat this hard material like soft organza, swipe to see pics of my drapes. Then the incredibly talented Mattel atelier of patternmakers and sewers, went to work figuring how to construct the chain mail into a gown. And how to push the proportions of the coat to make a statement Shes got the Lea/Kayla face sculpt, with a nude mauvey lip and graphic blue undereyeliner, painted by the one & only @minhtam_!!!

Spring at Versailles Barbie, Carlyle OOAK donation to 2018 Paris Fashion Doll Festival. His inspiration came from the amazing book Im currently reading, The Battle of Versailles: The Night American Fashion Stumbled into the Spotlight and Made History by @robingivhan! Its about when in 1973, five American designers battled against five French designers at the Palace of Versailles. Each faction showed up and showed out, bringing out the best of each countrys fashion identity. The American designers not only stunted with beautiful ready-to-wear (versus Parisian couture) but they also casted their presentation with many models of color. This event most definitely changed the course of fashion, not just in terms of clothing itself but also in terms of diversity in casting models. So alllll o dat got his thinking What would a Battle of Versailles look like today And from reading Robin Givhans book and ruminating on what fashion (clothes and the models in the clothes) looks like today, came this Barbie! Spring at Versailles is his idea of a modern Parisian couture sensibility; meticulous but still fun and a little surreal-quirky. Her mermaid gown features metallic foiled nude lace appliqued with graduated tulle ruffles in tones of peach, lavender, chartreuse, ruby and navy.
